Our History

In 1964, The Musigals,

a local women’s chorus collaborated with a local men’s chorus to form a mixed-voice choral group. In 1965, this group entered and won the Fred Waring Sacred Heart Competition. Upon this success, the group subsequently became The Cambridge Singers. In 2024, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Cambridge Singers, who remain one of the oldest, if not the oldest continuously performing mixed choral groups in the state of Ohio. All members audition, perform, and contribute their time and talents to the group on a volunteer basis, and the organization is a registered 501(c)(3) charity.

The group’s achievements include performances at Carnegie Hall (with the Manhattan Philharmonic under the direction of renowned choral composer John Rutter), AmeriFlora ’92, the Salt Fork Arts and Crafts Festival, the Miss Clayland Pageant, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and other such events too numerous to list. Since 1983, The Cambridge Singers have awarded an annual $1000 scholarship to qualified college music majors and since 1967 have sponsored tuition and board for at least two high school students, annually, to music and theater camps. In addition, the prestigious Rigel Award is presented annually to a community-nominated candidate who promotes and advocates music, music education, and the importance of the arts to all walks of life.

With membership from a wide variety of backgrounds and communities, the common bond of the group is their love of music and musical variety. Each year, The Cambridge Singers endeavor to present at least shows: a Christmas Spectacular and Spring Musical Revue. Each show is well rehearsed complete with choreography, costumes, staging, and a live pit orchestra. It is the goal of The Cambridge Singers to continue to be a vital part of the community’s arts and music education programs.
